This year’s conference in Palm Springs offered an information-packed agenda beginning with pre-conference workshops followed with 3 jam-packed days of educational sessions. The following is only a brief summary of the activities that were offered with more in-depth details on the educational program, registration & exhibitors.

Pre Conference Workshops - Monday, April 19th & Tuesday April 20th.

  • 2010 SEER Advanced Topics for Registry Professionals

  • A 2-day educational session on hematopoietic and lymphoid neoplasm for registry professionals. Hospital and central registry staff will benefit from a systematic review of key concepts including hematopoiesis, relevant anatomy, and complex disease processes, with an emphasis on diagnostic testing, confirmation of disease, and clinical workup. Significant notes, excerpts, and instruction from the 2010 Hematopoietic and Lymphoid Neoplasm Case Reportability and Coding Manual, and use of the Hematopoietic Database, will be covered in greater detail than during the prerequisite Web-based educational presentations. Staging of these neoplasm will also be included using the Collaborative Stage Data Collection System Version 2.

  • Central Cancer Registries: Design, Management & Use

  • The CCR:DMU course intends to provide an executive summary of all functions and processes of the central registry, and is aimed at new or current cancer registry staff, and users of cancer registry data. Many of the faculty experts have taught their subject annually since the first offering in 1989, fine tuning their presentation from year to year. Jerri Linn Phillips and Tom C. Tucker served as class facilitators.

    Educational Sessions - Wednesday, April 21st – Friday, April 23rd
    Wednesday begins our first day of educational sessions starting with plenary sessions in the morning and breakout sessions offered in the afternoon (Wednesday and Thursday). Friday will include plenary sessions throughout the day with the following as some of our session offerings:

  • Review of the new staging systems introduced in the 7th edition, AJCC Cancer Staging Manual
  • Revised multiple primary and histology rules
  • Presentation by NPCR on data completeness and quality audits
  • CSV2 site specific tracks and post treatment staging plans to be implemented in 2011
  • Presentations on management, enhancement and promoting the value of the Cancer Registry.
