Accreditation Process

NCRA's Formal Education Program Review Committee (FEPRC) is responsible for establishing, maintaining and applying standards that ensure the quality and continuous improvement of Cancer Registry education and reflect the evolving practice of Cancer Registry Management.

Role and Value of Accreditation
NCRA's interest in accreditation is based upon the belief that all professions that provide services to the public have an obligation to ensure, as far as possible, that services provided by its members are of high professional quality. One effective way in which this obligation can be met is by establishing appropriate standards of educational quality and by identifying publicly those educational programs that meet or exceed these standards. Accreditation is intended to protect the interests of students; benefit the public; and improve the quality of teaching, learning, research, and professional practice.

As an accredited provider of Cancer Registry education the program is given access to a variety of resources aimed at supporting and ensuring the growth of your program. Our Partners in Education on the web site offers a Mentor Directory that allows students to search online for sites to complete their clinical work experience. In addition, NCRA offers several opportunities for accredited programs to market its school to potential students and post job vacancies for instructors.

NCRA's textbook, Cancer Registry Management: Principles and Practice Order Online - ISBN 0-7575-0192-3) is a valuable core resource for students and is available to accredited programs at a discounted rate.

Most importantly, students who successfully complete an accredited Formal Education Program are eligible to sit for the Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) Credentialing Examination.

Accreditation Classifications
There are four classification statuses for programs in the accreditation process that reflect NCRA evaluation of the extent to which an education program complies with the Standards for Accreditation (Standards). They are:

  1. Accreditation Applicant
  2. Provisional Accreditation
  3. Accredited (Initial Accreditation or Reaccreditation)
  4. Accredited - On Probation
