NCRA’s 41st Annual Educational Conference (NCRA 2015) will be held May 20-23, 2015, at the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter in San Antonio, Texas. Critical topics to help cancer registrars keep up-to-date with changes in the industry will be addressed. Learn the latest by attending one of the many plenary sessions and choosing the concurrent sessions best suited for you. Over 50 plenary and breakout sessions are scheduled. Several sessions will focus on the transition from Collaborative Stage to AJCC TNM Stage and NCI Summary Stage that is set to take place January 2016. Earn over 18 CEs in three days!

Two-Day Pre-Conference Workshop: SEER: 2015 Advanced Topics for Registry Professionals
Tuesday and Wednesday, May 19-20, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

NCRA is pleased to host the SEER two-day pre-conference workshop. It has been designed to expand knowledge and build registrar expertise and confidence in the areas of SEER Summary Staging, new initiatives in quality control methods, coding surgical procedures, understanding cancer diagnosis methods and treatments, and treatments of lung cancer.  Participants will also learn the outcome of the TNM Training Needs Assessment study. Meals are not provided. There are no fees for this workshop, but registration is required. Space is limited, so register early!

Concurrent Workshop: Fundamentals of Abstracting
Thursday and Friday, May 21-22, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM; Saturday, May 23, 8:00 AM–12:00 PM

The Fundamentals of Abstracting Workshop is intended for registrars with between six months and two years of experience and will focus on the concepts of quality abstracting and data reporting practices. The agenda provides hands-on experiences and interactive exercises using patient cases, resource materials, manuals, and databases to provide the participant opportunities to experience a variety of basic and complex abstracting exercises. The faculty will provide a theoretical basis for the tasks and activities associated with abstracting and a comprehensive and thorough review of the topics most important to abstractors. Participants will be given some pre-work, including completing case studies and participating in a pre-workshop webinar. Registration is required. 
 
Post-Conference Workshop: Cancer Informatics for Registrars: From Bedside to Big Data
Sunday, May 24, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM

The Cancer Informatics for Registrars: From Bedside to Big Data Workshop will bring together cancer registrars, cancer program administrators, managers, and students from across the nation to address the practical application and use of cancer informatics. Agenda topics will address the registrar’s core competencies and utilization of electronic medical records systems; efficient data collection methods and reporting of quality data; and information retrieval for clinical, statistical, and strategic planning purposes. Practical and real-time case studies will demonstrate use of registry data for performance and patient-care improvement, quality outcomes, cost reductions, economic and regulatory concerns, ethical challenges, and more. Post-Conference Workshop: One-Day Intensive CTR Exam Prep
Sunday, May 24, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM

The One-Day Intensive CTR Exam Prep Workshop is a rigorous training experience for those preparing to take the CTR exam in the summer and fall exam periods. Faculty will focus exclusively on the open-book portion of the exam and provide a thorough review of resources and offer hands-on case studies to help candidates prepare for the exam. Registration is required.

NCRA is using two Marriott sister properties for its 2015 Annual Educational Conference. The Marriott Rivercenter is the primary hotel where most events will occur and where most sleeping rooms are reserved. NCRA reaches out to administrators to support cancer registry staff attending its educational conference. This letter-of-support highlights the value and importance of attending the conference. We need your help in identifying who should receive this important letter on your behalf. Note: the letter is not limited to hospital facilities. Any NCRA member who feels they would benefit from such support is encouraged to provide their supervisors’ contact information. NCRA will not share the contact information with other organizations, and NCRA will not mention your name in the communication. Complete the Letter-of-Support Information Form.


State Presidents’ Leadership Lunch

 

NCRA will hold its annual networking and information sharing lunch for state associations on Friday, May 22. Details will be e-mailed to state association presidents in February 2015.
