What is a Cancer Registrar?

Cancer registrars are data information specialists who capture a complete history, diagnosis, treatment, and health status for every cancer patient in the U.S. This curated data provides essential information to researchers, healthcare providers, and public health officials to better monitor and advance cancer treatments, conduct research, and improve cancer prevention and screening programs. Learn more about becoming a cancer registrar.

NCRA's Center for Cancer Registry Education (CCRE) is designed to provide easy access to high-quality educational programming to support both seasoned professionals and those new to the field. This one-stop access site offers a variety of products and services, allowing you to tailor your training and manage continuing education credits.

The Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) credential sets the standard for professional competence in the cancer registry field. It is nationally recognized in the recruitment and retention of registry personnel. NCRA's certification board - the Council on Certification - oversees the ODS exam administration and credential maintenance. The ODS credential is earned by successfully passing the ODS exam and maintained through meeting continuing education (CE) requirements and payment of an annual certification maintenance fee.
