Professional Liability Insurance

What is Professional Liability Insurance?

Professional Liability Insurance protects you against claims arising from real or alleged errors or omissions, including negligence, in the course of your professional duties. Remember, legal defense and settlement costs are paid in addition to your limits of liability.

What are the costs and coverage provided?

The limits of liability offered are $1,000,000/$6,000,000. Upon approval, the premiums for individual policy holders can be as follows:

  • Employed Part-Time: $98 premium, $10 administrative fee for members of NCRA/$20 for non-members
  • Employed Full-Time: $98 premium, $10 administrative fee for members of NCRA/$20 for non-members
  • Self-Employed Part-Time: $100 premium, $10 administrative fee for members of NCRA/$20 for non-members

Why should a cancer registrar have professional liability insurance?

The insurance policy will protect you if a client files a suit regarding how you did or didn’t fulfill your professional obligations.
It protects you in the event that clients sue, claiming that you caused them financial loss or interruption of services.
More companies are requiring independent contractors to carry liability insurance when working on a project for them.

Do Students Need This Type of Insurance Coverage too?

Many students enrolled in some academic programs may be required to purchase their own liability insurance and show proof of their policy to complete any practicum or internship program.
NCRA students can now apply online here. The occupation to select is Student-Allied Health, coverage is $25/year for $1,000,000/$5,000,000 limits. Or download the printable student application here.

If your employer provides you with coverage, do you need your own insurance plan?
In today’s litigious society it is more important than ever to protect yourself in the event a client files a malpractice claim. Having individual coverage provides you with your own attorney to protect your interests, not those of your employer. Protecting your career and or practice is easy and affordable. Professional liability insurance for allied health professionals provides peace of mind.
