ODS Exam Prep: Hands-On Strategies for the Open-Book Section

The ODS Exam Prep Workshop is a one-day, rigorous training experience for those preparing to take the ODS exam in 2025. Faculty will focus exclusively on the open-book portion of the exam, provide a thorough review of resources, and offer hands-on case studies to help candidates prepare for the exam.

Understanding and Applying Informatics for Cancer Registry Professionals

The inaugural NCRA in-person Informatics Workshop – Understanding and Applying Informatics for Cancer Registry Professionals – provides seven sessions on key informatics topics of importance to registrars. Developed by NCRA’s Informatics Committee, the sessions include health informatics 101; information on how registrars, IT teams, and software vendors can work together; Excel 101 for the cancer registrar; using excel to monitor and report from the cancer registry; leveraging informatics in the cancer registry via data automation and analytics; and an open forum to discuss data interoperability and the future. Presenters include Kelly Merriman, MPH, PhD, ODS-C; Ronda Broome, MSHMI, MS, ODS-C; and Sherita Hearn, MPH, ODS-C. The workshop is designed for cancer registry managers and cancer registry data quality coordinators, but all ODS-credentialed cancer registry professionals are welcome to register. Fundamentals of Abstracting
Sunday, May 4 through Tuesday, May 6, 2025 

The Fundamentals of Abstracting (FOA) Workshop will focus on the concepts of quality abstracting and data reporting practices. The agenda includes hands-on experiences and interactive exercises using patient cases, resource materials, manuals, and databases to provide the participant opportunities to experience a variety of basic and complex abstracting exercises. The faculty will provide a theoretical basis for the tasks and activities associated with abstracting and a comprehensive review of the topics most important to abstractors. The workshop is considered a basic course and is not eligible for CE credits. The FOA Workshop is suitable for registry employees with between six months and two years of experience.
